Module 6: Psychologist as a counselor for human development
This module focuses on the role of psychologist as a counselor for human development.
"Career guidance refers to services and activities intended to assist individuals of any age and at any point throughout their lives, to make educational, training and occupational choices and to manage their careers." (OECD, 2004)
Learning Outcomes:
- Promoting assistance and counselling in support of student education.
- Facilitating students' transitions from elementary to secondary, secondary to post-secondary, and post-secondary to other educational institutions and/or work.
- Providing curricular guidance, including subject options, course selection, and so on. Giving personal advice and counselling.
- Information is provided through a variety of activities/materials/seminars at both the school and system levels, such as Career Exhibitions, Career Orientation visits/seminars, Information pamphlets, and so on.
- Creating and maintaining cumulative record cards.
- Referring students to other services and organisations based on their requirements.
- Staff development in the fields of advice and counselling is encouraged.
- Participating in/or conducting guidance-related research projects, such as the Tracer study, Espad, and the Health Promoting Schools' Project.
- Making education-industry-commerce-service connections easier.
- Facilitating parenting skills programmes and giving presentations.
- Organizing in-service training and professional development opportunities.
- Seminars, presentations, and preventive programmes on guidance-related issues are being organised.
- Contacting parents about pupils' overall growth and other specific issues.
